The name of the neighborhood association shall be the Greater McGehee Estates Neighborhood Association, composed of the following areas: McGehee Estates, Westminster, Allendale, Myrtlewood, Rosemont, Country Club, Meadow Lane, and Rosemont Place.


The boundaries are: Southside of Carter Hill Road from Narrow Lane to Zelda Road, west side of Carter Hill Road from Zelda Road to McGehee Road, north side of McGehee Road from Carter Hill Road to Woodley Road, east side of Woodley Road from McGehee Road to Narrow Lane, east side of Narrow Lane to Carter Hill Road.


The purpose of the association is to: manage, maintain and care for association assets and activities, to promote communication between residents and between residents and city agencies, to improve the livelihood and public services in the neighborhood.


Membership will be open to any person residing within the boundaries of the Greater McGehee Estates Neighborhood Association. Residents will not be discriminated from becoming members of the association based on race, religion, color, sex, sexual orientation, age, disability, national origin, income, or political affiliation. City council representatives from district 7 & 8 are honorary members of the association.


The collection of annual dues of $20 per household will be voluntary. The annual amount of dues can be changed by a majority vote of members at any regular scheduled meeting. Dues will be used for the operation of the association. If the association is dissolved, any remaining monies will contributed to the Public Safety Insurance Fund (PSIF), Montgomery, Alabama, intended to benefit active duty officers of the Montgomery Police Department, Montgomery Fire Department and the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department.


  1. The officers shall be: President, 1st & 2nd Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer. **
    There will also be six area representatives. The officers and area representatives will constitute the Board of Directors.
  2. In 2007, election of officers and area representatives will be held in November. Beginning in 2008, elections shall be held in October of each year.
  3. The President Vice-Presidents, Secretary and Treasurer shall be the principal officers of the association and shall supervise and control all the business affairs of the association. The President shall preside at all meetings, with the 1st or 2nd Vice-President presiding in the absence of the President. The five officers will constitute the Executive Committee.
  4. The Secretary shall keep the minutes of the meetings and conduct assigned correspondence for the association.
  5. The Treasurer shall have charge and custody of and be responsible for all funds of the association and such depositories as shall be selected by the members. The Treasurer will also provide an updated financial report and/or bank statement at each general meeting of the association.
  6. The seven Area Representatives will be elected from the following areas:
    McGehee Estates
    Country Club/Meadow Lane
    Rosemont Place
    The Area Representatives will provide information and suggestions to the Board of Directors for matters within their geographic areas.
  7. The term or office shall be for one year. Officers and Area Representatives may be re-nominated each year and serve unlimited terms.
  8. An officer/area representative may resign by giving 30 days notice in writing to the membership.


  1. The Neighborhood Association shall meet four (4) times a year.
  2. A quorum for conducting business shall be fifteen (15) members.
  3. Special or emergency meetings of the association may be called at the discretion of the President, or by the Board of Directors or petition by members.
  4. The time, date, and location of each general meeting shall be posted on yard signs at the entrances into the neighborhood at least six days in advance, or by other methods also (flyers, email, newsletter, newspaper, etc.).
  5. Special committees may be formed at the discretion of the President or vote of the membership.
  6. The association will abide by the open meeting and open record practice.
  7. The Executive Committee and the Board of Directors shall meet to conduct the business of the association between the scheduled quarterly meetings


The fiscal year will run from 1 January to 31 December of each year.


All members and non-members living within the association boundaries are encouraged to present their grievances concerning activities, fund raising, policies and agendas. The decision to act upon and/or make a final decision regarding such grievances will be made by the officers, and/or a vote of the majority of association members.


The Neighborhood Association welcomes the idea and encourages networking with other neighborhood associations and or homeowner groups. Although the boundary lines are set forth, that does not preclude the possibility of an alliance with other neighborhood groups. It is our desire to work with all concerned citizens in Montgomery's neighborhoods.


By-laws may be revisited and/or amended by a majority vote of membership in attendance at a regularly scheduled meeting.
